Why Shopify and your ad dashboard show different revenue
Open Shopify, then open Meta Ads Manager side by side. The revenue numbers do not match, and they never will, until you understand why. It is not a bug. It is four different definitions of "revenue" colliding.
1. Attribution windows
Meta credits a sale it thinks it influenced on a 7-day-click, 1-day-view window. Shopify credits the order on the day it was placed. They are running different clocks over the same customer, so the same rupee lands in a different bucket on a different day.
2. Platforms mark their own homework
Every ad platform over-claims. Add up Meta's "revenue" and Google's "revenue" and the total sails past your real Shopify number, because both took credit for the same order. Self-reported platform revenue is a sales pitch, not an accounting figure.
3. Returns, discounts and tax
Shopify's "total sales" may include or exclude returns, discounts and tax depending on which report you opened. Ad platforms ignore all three. So even the base you are comparing against is not one number.
4. Timezone and currency
Order timestamps and ad-platform timezones rarely agree, so sales slide across day and month boundaries. On a big day near midnight, that alone can move lakhs between two reports.
Your dashboards do not disagree because one is wrong. They disagree because nobody defined "revenue" once.
The fix: define revenue once, then reconcile against it
The durable answer is a governed single definition of revenue, net of returns and tax, on the order date, living in a semantic layer. Ad spend reconciles against that one number, deduplicated, every figure traceable to the exact SQL.
